Professor Xiongfei Wang from Tsinghua University Visits the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology for Academic Exchange and Lecture

  On April 15, 2026, Professor Xiongfei Wang, Editor-in-Chief of the flagship journal in power electronics, IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics (TPEL), and Xinghua Chair Professor at Tsinghua University, visited the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). He engaged in in-depth discussions with faculty and students on topics related to journal submission, peer review, and academic research.

  Professor Wang elaborated on the editorial structure of TPEL, the review process, key considerations for manuscript submission, and important deadlines. He also introduced TPEL's approaches to trending topics such as journal impact factors and AI-assisted peer review. Following his presentation, attendees actively raised questions encountered during their own submission processes, and Professor Wang provided thorough answers. He encouraged everyone to actively submit their work, take on the responsibilities of reviewers and associate editors, and collectively advance the development of the power electronics discipline.

  Professor Wang also delivered an academic report entitled "Dynamic Stability and Control of Grid-Connected Converters." He discussed stability issues arising from dynamic interactions between converters and the power grid, covering sub-/super-synchronous oscillations, harmonic stability, transient power-angle instability, and other phenomena. He systematically introduced the associated dynamic analysis and control methods, and explored future development trends and key technical challenges of grid-forming converters. Focusing on the theme of dynamic stability and control of grid-connected converters, the attending faculty and students shared their research challenges and ideas, and Professor Wang offered targeted suggestions and insights. The lecture attracted nearly one hundred graduate students.

  This event was organized at the invitation of Professor Dong Jiang of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, HUST, and was jointly hosted by the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) Wuhan Chapter and the Department of Applied Electronic Engineering. 

            

Biography of Professor Xiongfei Wang:

  Xiongfei Wang is a Xinghua Chair Professor at Tsinghua University, an IEEE Fellow, and a nationally recognized high-level talent. He leads the High-Power Power Electronics and New Power Transmission Research Group in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronic Technology at Tsinghua University. He has long been engaged in research at the intersection of power electronics and power systems, with primary interests including modeling and control of power electronic converters and systems, security and stability of power-electronics-dominated power systems, power quality and harmonic mitigation, and high-power power electronics technology. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, and Chair of the Power Electronics in Power Systems Technical Committee of the IEEE Power Electronics Society. He has received 12 IEEE Best Paper Awards, the IEEE Richard M. Bass Outstanding Young Power Electronics Engineer Award, the IEEE PELS Sustainable Energy Systems Technical Achievement Award, and numerous other international academic honors.
